Subject: R-1000 Receiver

I recently purchased one of your R-1000 receivers and wish to complement you on the unit. The R-1000 is designed to efficiently manage multiple frequency systems. The programmable design allows the user to add and delete frequencies as needed and the scan function with the pass feature allows the user to prioritize each particular days use as needed. The unit is designed to be light weight, extremely sensitive and very user friendly.

I would heartily recommend the unit to any wildlife manager and find it especially effective for my specific use as I can not only monitor particular wolves but also program and scan trap monitor devices easily.

I am interested in improving the design of trap monitoring devices which are remote transmitters adapted to change pulse rates when a trap is thrown. You have certainly proven your ability to improve traditional electronic monitoring devices to me. If you would be interested in improving the marginally effective trap monitoring devices currently available I would be glad to assist you with providing information on practical application if you would be interested in providing the electronic and technical expertise. If you would like to talk to me about this please e-mail me or call 520-333-4142.

Once again thank you so much for your contribution to wildlife management of the R-1000. I am definitely sold on the unit and will sell many more of my peers.

Your R-1000 telemetry receiver thoroughly impresses me. I am using three R-1000s and highly recommend it to other wildlife scientists involved in telemetry work.

I have been doing field research on wolves and ungulates in Alaska for 35 years and currently monitor 33 groups of radio-collared wolves regularly, year-round, across two large regions of the Interior (Denali and Fortymile). I fly more than 500 hours per year in Super Cubs and other small aircraft while radio-tracking these wolves and their prey, especially during the winter months in temperatures as low as 30-40 below zero (F). I have not had any operational problems with the R-1000 even in these severe conditions, in large measure because it is so small and light that, between relocations (from one radio collar to the next), I am able to keep it in a warm pocket inside the front of my parka. Its small size and weight also work like a charm in minimizing what I need to carry on my back during summer treks to wolf dens for ground observation.

The R-1000’s digital scanner, memory, and associated programmable functions are of high quality and easy to use. Much of my mid winter flying is in dim light conditions, so I appreciate the option to illuminate the display and keyboard at the simple press of a key.

However, what pleasantly surprised my pilots and I the most when we began using the R-1000 is its superior signal quality. I have also used other well known telemetry receivers extensively, but as far as I (and my pilots) are concerned the signals that the R-1000 generates are typically of superior strength, clarity, and stability. The separate gain and volume controls all the more enhance our efficiency in homing in on distant collars.

And all of this for a fraction of the purchase price of other receivers and scanners. I wish you continuing success with this fine product.

Last year I purchased five R- 1000 Radio Receivers from Communications Specialists for a collaborative radio telemetry project being conducted at the Baltimore Zoo. I am writing to let you know that I am extremely pleased with your product.

In the past I have used receivers purchased from several of your competitors, and none of them has the range, directionality, and compactness to compare with the R 1000. In addition, the instrument is very easy to use and program. In fact, it is so user friendly that I have actually had middle school children using the equipment without difficulty.

In addition to the quality of the equipment, I am also impressed with your customer service. This past fall, I purchased two additional units, and on their first day in the field, one was dropped into a stream. Water and electronics are clearly a bad combination and the instrument suffered some minor water damage. I returned it to Communications Specialists with a note explaining the impact of its loss to our ongoing investigation. Imagine my surprise when the unit was returned to me within 48 hours. You can be certain that I will recommend the R- 1000 and your company to any of my colleagues who might be looking for a reasonably priced, reliable radio receiver.

Dear Randy:

We just finished two weeks in the field radio-tracking southeastern big-eared bats in a central Florida swamp. Wow, the R-1000 receivers are great! I purchased two just to test, since the cost is so much lower that other wildlife receivers. My intention was to send them back if I wasn’t happy. With the R-1000, we were able to pick up weak signals that our Telonics TR-2 was not getting at all. The fine tune is incredible. My only problem is... now I want more so we can maximize our data collection.

I will be purchasing more soon and will tell everyone I know that the R-1000 is a superior and affordable product. Keep up the good work.

Sincerely;
