USING THE PR-60 RECEIVER TO FIND A TRANSMITTER
     Make sure the transmitter you are searching for has a properly installed, fresh battery
and is functioning.  The channel number of the transmitter is marked on a label on its
side.
1. Momentarily put the ON-OFF-BATTERY TEST SWITCH on the PR-60 in the
BATTERY TEST position to make sure the internal battery tests O.K. on the meter.
2. Plug the FA-1 directional antenna into the ANTENNA JACK.  Turn the ON-OFF-
BATTERY TEST SWITCH to ON.
3. Dial in the CHANNEL SELECTOR to the channel of the transmitter you want to DF
(direction find).  Switch the LOCAL-DX (distant) ATTENUATOR SWITCH to 1.  You
should be able to hear the pulses from the transmitter.  If you can not, hold the PR-60
level in your hand, use vertical antenna polarity (FA-1 perpendicular to the ground) to
start with and turn around in a full circle and see if you hear the transmitter.  If you can
not, try horizontal antenna polarity (FA-1 in the horizontal position) and try again.  The
FA-1 can be rotated on its BNC connector to change polarity.
4. If you still do not hear the transmitter, you will have to change location to get closer to
it.  Try getting the antenna higher by standing on a truck bed, rooftop, or nearby hill.  Use
a vehicle to get closer.  An optional magnetic roof mount non-directional (our model
RA-9) antenna is very useful.  Alternately have the passenger, not the driver, hold the
PR-60 while pointing the FA-1 directional antenna out the window until the transmitter is
heard.  Range will be shorter with the antenna inside the vehicle or on the dashboard, so
stop now and then, get outside, and turn around in a full circle to increase it.  If you are in
hilly terrain, get as high as possible, get outside the vehicle, and turn around in a full
circle until the transmitter is heard.  Some vehicles generate considerable interference
even with the key off.  Get outside the vehicle if this is a problem.
5. When you hear the transmitter, note its direction, and head towards it.  As the pulsing
signal gets stronger, change the LOCAL-DX SWITCH to a higher number to keep the
meter around mid scale.  This will also keep the PR-60 from overloading.
6. Recheck for proper direction and continue, changing the LOCAL-DX SWITCH to
higher numbers as you get closer.  You should be able to walk up to the transmitter and
touch it with the antenna when the LOCAL-DX SWITCH is in the higher number
positions.
7. It is a VERY good idea to try a few dry runs having someone else hide the transmitter
with you finding it using the above method.
